This is "Today was a Fairytale," a pivotal moment within The Uninvited Guest series. This large-scale piece was created with Prismacolor colored pencils on heavyweight drawing paper.
This composition is heavily and lovingly inspired by the whimsy of Mary Blair and the enchanting landscapes of classic Disney animations I adored as a child. It represents a beautifully constructed fantasy state—a perfect, curated world of fountains and castles. However, in this scene, the "fairytale" is interrupted. After all the running and hiding depicted in other pieces, I am shown caught, fully enveloped within the pink beam of the UFO nemesis.
This piece serves as a striking visual of surrender to the inevitable disruption of the past; it shows that even inside our most perfect constructed defenses and happy places, the "uninvited guest" can still find us, taking us out of the dream and back into the vacuum others cannot see.
